San Diego Fit Faves: Renegade Fitcamp

I first ventured to Point Loma’s Renegade Fitcamp a few months ago after eyeing the new studio on Instagram. Instantly intrigued by the set up, trainers, equipment, and photography, I pledged to take advantage of their 3-day trial and head in for a workout. Best. Decision. Ever. Renegade Fitcamp takes interval training to the next level. The one hour workout is thoughtfully written, and action-packed with cardio and strength training. The studio is incredibly well laid out, and everyone has their own area to sweat and get swole (flex). And best of all, the team is encouraging, smart, and there to support and guide you through it.

The Workout

No two days at Renegade Fitcamp are alike. Monday - Thursday are strength focused workouts, with each day training different muscle groups. The template provides a safe and effective way to train 6x/week at the studio.RenegadeFitcamp-SanDiegoMonday: Legs/ShouldersTuesday: Arms/CoreWednesday: Chest/BackThursday: Legs/GlutesThe usual split is 15 - 15 - 15, with 15 minutes solely devoted to interval cardio work. The remaining time is split between the weight bench station and turf area. Everyone has their own weight station, along with suspension straps, bench, and kettlebells. This allows attendees to safely execute each exercise, and avoid running around to grab weights. I love having my own rack! On the turf expect to use kettlebells, weights, bands, gliders, battle ropes, and your own bodyweight. Friday: On Fridays expect an upper body and core focused workout with a bit more interval and conditioning work sprinkled in. Saturday/Sunday: Weekends are the opportunity to get a little bit of everything. Did you miss back day on Wednesday? Leg day on Thursday? Renegade has you covered :) Expect interval cardio and strength training, and perhaps a bit more fun on the assault bike.RenegadeFitCamp-SanDiegoworkout

The Team

The team at Renegade Fitcamp is smart and supportive. Workouts are carefully designed with technique and safety in mind, with trainers providing modifications for every exercise and reviewing each workout during cool down. Why was this exercise done as a superset? Why did we perform a squat this way at this time? I’m always learning.RenegadeFitCamp-SanDiegoI’ve had the opportunity to train with Jamie, Marc, and Ashley, and all three are excellent trainers. It’s a rarity to find coaches so in tune to form, cueing, and the energy and needs of everyone in class. I trust that no matter what modification I need now (or in the future) they can support me. In case you thought it couldn’t get any better, Pepper the French is Renegade’s adorable mascot.https://www.instagram.com/p/BYOHEZJBwBm/?taken-by=renegadefitcamp

Why Renegade is a Fit Fave

I love the intensity and smart training. I love that I have my own space, my own weights, and can set my own pace. Renegade is YOUR workout. Moving into 2018 my focus is on variety and strength. I love cycling, yoga, pilates, and sculpt classes, but there’s something about lifting heavy that empowers me. Looking down at heavy weights and kettlebells and slamming ropes makes me feel unstoppable.RenegadeFitCamp-BattleropesAre you ready to join me? The team offers a 3-day trial for newbies. Don’t miss out :)Photos courtesy of Renegade Fitcamp.
